Larry’s Lodge

by likableart ~ March 1st, 2010

…..This was an exceptionally fun t-shirt to design. Once again Kelly a youth minister from Georgia asked if I could put together a shirt for her upcoming ski trip for the youth group. She wanted a shirt that did not look like a youth group t-shirt. Something that the teens would wear again and again. After some deliberation we decided to go with an old tourist t-shirt meets modern chic.

Insight to “Born – March for Life 2010″

by likableart ~ February 22nd, 2010

We just released this video from last month’s March for Life. I’m ecstatic about how well it has been received and how far it has been spread. It already has over 7,000 views on YouTube and was just picked up by Catholic TV, EWTN’s Life on the Rock as well as been blogged about on countless blogs.

.

Insight:

Franciscan University of Steubenville called me up the day before the march and asked if I would go to DC and shoot a short piece that would show the presence of Franciscan but more importantly the importance of the pro-life cause. On the way to the March came up with a script and an idea. I’m a firm believer that I have nothing new to say but only a new way to say it. I can only point to what God has revealed to us. My goal was to present the pro-life message, which is so steadily proclaimed from the opening words of Genesis to the current day, in a way that might make us all reconsider why we stand for life.

Haiti – United in Prayer

by likableart ~ January 26th, 2010

I am extremely excited about this project. This video is part of a full length album of various Catholic artists. This album includes 5 incredible songs, 2 amazing videos, all for 1 very important cause. The album can be downloaded for free (at the small price of a couple of prayers for our brothers and sisters in Haiti) or you can donate money and every penny goes to Catholic Relief services and their work in Haiti. Please spread the word, download the video at AfterMass Records and you have full permission to use it in any teaching setting.
.
Thoughts behind the video: On the day of the earthquake in Haiti, I wrote in my prayer journal, “Lord if you’re calling me to do something about this earthquake let me know.” After being inspired by close friends using their talents to support those in Haiti, I felt a bit of a tug. I felt like there were plenty of videos calling people to donate and even stating the magnitude of the devastation. While I find both of those very important messages to spread I wanted to go a bit deeper by sharing our responsibility as Christians. After talking to my brother, Kyle, about putting together a relief album of various Catholic artists and producers I went to Mass and after Mass made some phone calls and started working on a script. Within an hour the script was finished and we were shooting. Only after shooting the entire video did I realize that the closing verse from 1 Corinthians was actually the second reading from Sunday mass. I encourage us all to go back and re-read 1 Corinthians 12 as Paul shares so effectively our responsibilities as children of the Lord. This message is so much bigger than a video, than an album, than art itself.

7 Gifts T-shirt

by likableart ~ January 11th, 2010

Kelly, a youth minister from Georgia contacted me and asked me if I could put together a couple of t-shirt designs for her youth ministry. This one was for a retreat on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. She asked for something that didn’t look like the typical retreat shirt but instead something that the youth would wear over and over again. The design is one big flame, representing the Holy Spirit (see Acts 2:3), made up entirely of the 7 gifts written out. Each gift is listed within the picture exactly 7 times, subtly stressing the significance of the number seven.

Popple Docucomedy

by likableart ~ January 5th, 2010

Have you heard of the band Popple? My brother Kyle along with Dan Harms make up this comedy duo. We’ve worked together quite a bit and it’s always a good time. Here is a short documentary we just put together. Also we worked together on their site which is also a lot of fun. They just put out a new album a couple of months ago and my ears have never been happier. You can stream the entire album from their website.

Peace,

Cory

“Ferocious Stereo” Album and Branding

by likableart ~ December 11th, 2009

ferocious-stereo-for-web2
This is a whole new concept and branding for a new band “Ferocious Stereo.” Now I’m not usually one to be mysterious, but I can’t release too much information at this time, all the track names are supplementary and may or may not be the final track names (changed to protect the innocent). All I can say is that I received permission to post the artwork before the album comes out. I was too excited about this one to not share it.

New NCYC video

by likableart ~ November 14th, 2009

Here’s a new video I just finished up for Spirit Juice Studios. It was great to be able to stretch my legs and try out my hand at a little animation. Make sure to pick up the FREE album. If you have never heard about Spirit Juice – check them out. I’ve been a fan of these guys for a while now, every project they release is better than the last. Just makes me excited about people doing professional media work for the glory of God.

Dr. Bergsma

by likableart ~ November 4th, 2009

drb. .I have come to find that the inspiration for art can come from just about anywhere that you can find truth. When I saw that Fallible Blogma had a peoples choice award for the top 100 Catholic speakers, and was asking website and blog owners to write a post about a Catholic speaker from the list I could could not help but to notice one that stood out as one of my inspirations.

.

.    .Dr. John Bergsma is currently one of my professors here at Franciscan University and one that has been a great mentor in and out of the classroom. Being able to witness Dr. Bergsma as a teacher, speaker, and a solid Catholic father has been a delight, a great example of practicing what you preach.
While I could go on about Dr. Bergsma’s interesting background and conversion I would rather just point you to JohnBergsma.com.

.

.Pictured here is one of his stick figures representing David in the Psalms. I have never seen such great stick figures biblical portrayals! In fact, his stick figure drawings of salvation history has inspired a gospel tune I’m working on. Furthermore his sharing of the truth of creation was one of my great motivators for starting Likable Art and our motto ‘Like the art, Love the creator.’ It is so easy as an artist to want to look purely introspectively for inspiration, but it is in recognizing creation as God’s first piece of art, and everything we create is just reflecting his beauty, that we free ourselves to create something worth while.
