...They say the key to comedy is to not over explain things. Luckily I’m not a comedian, so here I go. This is a sticker I put together for the multi-talented Bob Rice. Bob literally has no sense of smell, I’ve even heard he was going to get a trained dog to do his smelling for him. When he asked me about putting together some funny stickers that joked about this fact, I thought, oh boy it’s got to be a scratch and sniff sticker. If you’re curious what the sticker smells like you can probably just smell your monitor as it has a very similar smell.

….Brad is a multi-talented seminarian in the diocese of Baton Rouge. As he was wrapping up with his EP in Nashville he contacted me about putting together album art. He had a very specific theme woven throughout the EP and had a vision of corresponding artwork that would give a modern look to ancient truths. His songs spring from the lives of the Saints and the life of the Church. Much inspiration was drawn from old Gregorian chant notations as well as imagery of light and direction. “Ad Orientem” means ‘Facing East’ and we see that reflected throughout the album and the design. On the CD we find a compass that is a bit unusual with East being in the prominent position that North would usually claim. Be sure to check out Brad’s site and get a hold of some of his new music.

….In 2002 I had the opportunity to see John Paul II in Toronto, Canada. Seeing such a loving man with his desire to serve the least, meet people just where they are at, and take them to the cross was inspirational and unforgettable. My respect for the man has only grown as I’ve been able to study his writings, visit his home town, and his grave. Now I am humbled to have the opportunity to work on the new BlessedJP2.com which just launched earlier this week in preparation for the beatification this weekend. Check out the site for resources and to watch the beatification live! This site is the brainchild of NET NY of the wonderful diocese of Brooklyn.

….. I met Kate Deasy in a Denny’s in a hot summer evening in Florida. While the food was far from memorable, the friendship was lasting. Since she has become a close friend to me and my entire family (known around my house as ‘Boston Kate’) Recently Kate was diagnosed with MS and I cannot be more floored by her courage to battle. This weekend Kate along with various friends and family are taking the battle by the handlebars and riding 60 miles along the beautiful Martha’s Vineyard backdrop. If you find yourself having the means to donate to Team Deasy fo’ Sheezy and the cause please do so! Pictured is the team shirts that I had the wonderful opportunity to design.

You may have noticed that LikableArt.com got a bit of a make over. I just wanted to take a second and give some insight to the new look.

The new design is inspired by a simple picture frame. While the old site was a design itself, this new site is made to draw your eye into what lies in the pages. There will be a couple of tweaks coming during this next week, so let me know if you run into anything funny. In honor of the new site we’ll be adding to our free page, send us an e-mail if there are any designs or videos you would like to see added.

… Tomorrow I will be heading out to Haiti for a documenting trip with my sister Amber. Please keep us in your prayers. ….Before I left I wanted to share this little project that I recently entered into a competition. I have a passion for telling stories, and a few months back when I heard the story of Danny and Annie Perasa it moved me to the core. A couple of days later I sat down with a guitar and wrote a song about the couple. I don’t often record or share much of the music I write, but I eventually set up a tripod and sat down with my girlfriend Marie and recorded it. I put together a short video to correspond with the images of the song (which consists largely of quotes from Danny and Annie). It’s now in the running to win a video competition that the Ruth Institute is holding. If you enjoyed this moving story take a second and vote for it, and share it with your friends. … You may remember a short film produced for LIFT Ministries. Here’s another video for the great people over in Boston all about their ministry. What a blessing it was to be able to experience a night of praise and adoration and be able to share that through video. …...My brother Kyle and I have had the opportunity to work on various projects together, and it never ceases to be a good time. These pages of Likable Art are often graced by his design or web work. Even music from his band Popple can be found in quite a few videos. We’re often bouncing ideas off of each other, but when he told me he was thinking about writing a book about urinals I was a bit hesitant. Fast forward a month and a half and the book has been written, edited, designed and printed.

….I’ve read it a couple of times already and am now reading through it a bit slower and I must say it’s enjoyable all the way through. It’s a micro book for men, coming in at 4×6 inches and 31 pages long. It’s an easy, entertaining read and yet has some nuggets of wisdom that you don’t necessarily expect coming from a brother that you’ve grown up teasing and being teased by. My favorite review came from D. Scott Miller saying, “Just as the Great John Paul II gave us the Theology of the Body, the mostly good Kyle Heimann has now offered his brothers in faith a Theology of the Potty.” Be sure to check it out with a free download of the pdf, or for some loose change pick up a copy or two.

…Bob Lesnefsky (aka Righteous B) was looking for something different for his urban ministry. Every year they make a video that they send to donors and supporters and this year he wanted it to take things in a different direction. Bob had seen my Easter video and wanted that to be the starting point of the inspiration for this short. We started working on a script and story board and ended with a fun and moving video, which included tossing food, cards, and calendar pages and starting it all on fire. The entire video is in reverse, which brings to light the ministry’s ability to undo our tangled hearts. The video starts with a mess that is on fire and ends with a very simple image of dirt (Dirty Vagabond). It was such a pleasure to work with Bob and get to know his ministry and the work they are doing! be sure to check out Likable Art’s Facebook page for some upcoming behind the scenes photos.

….Andy approached me about a new project he was planning on releasing and was looking for artwork. Andy was great about explaining the thoughts behind the title, “Into the Depths.” The adjectives he used to describe the theme were bottomless, endless, devotion, and passion. We worked this into the design through a subtle theme of the wave. Everything in the design stems from the center and no matter which way you hold the CD, you see that same wave. On the actual CD, you actually fall into the ‘O’ of “Into the Depths” through the center of the CD.
